Greeting

Greetings from the Executive Committee Chair

 Dear Colleagues and Friends,

It is our great pleasure and honor to invite you to the 8th Japan-Czech-Slovakia (JCS) International Symposium on Theoretical Chemistry to be held at Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan in June 17-21, 2024.

The JCS symposium was initiated by Profs. R. Zahradnik, Z. Havlas, and H. Nakatsuji in 2004 based on the high-level scientific relationship and warm friendship between Japanese and Czech theoretical chemists. The first symposium was held at Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, Czech Republic in 2005. Slovak theoretical chemistry community joined in 2006, and the present form of the JCS symposium has been established. Since then, a series of the symposium was held in Kyoto (2007), Bratislava (2009), Prague (2011), Nara (2013), Bratislava (2015), and Prague (2018). The organizing policy of the JCS symposium is, "Friendship is our principle. Science will follow with us". Through the series of the trilateral symposium, theoretical chemistry communities in the three countries have been deepening our friendship and understanding on our science.

Hokkaido University was established as Sapporo Agricultural College in 1876 because Sapporo city was the frontier of Japan at that time. After the 150 years of development, the city has grown up to the 5th largest city in Japan. Since its establishment, the university occupies a large area in the Sapporo downtown. This fact creates a vast green hall inside Sapporo city. The university campus still keeps primitive forest since the beginning. The contrast between the preserved nature and culture is also an attracting feature of Sapporo.

We wish you all enjoy the Sapporo atmosphere together. Science should follow at the frontier!
