The 2nd Joint Symposium of Institute for Catalysis, Hokkaido University and SR Center, Ritsumeikan University was held at the main conference room on the 5th floor.

From December 11th (Wed) to December 19th (Thu), we conducted synchrotron radiation experiments at Photon Factory (PF), Institute of Materials Structure Science (IMSS) , High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK).
We conducted experiments on three themes: in situ XAFS measurements of plasma catalytic reactions, NEXAFS measurements of carbon-based fuel cell catalysts, and total-reflection DXAFS measurements of SUS surfaces (joint research with AIST).

From August 26th to September 13th, Mr. Utashiro Okumura, a first-year student in the Department of Materials and Environmental Engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Hakodate College, undertook an internship at our laboratory.
He worked on four research themes, and achieved high-level results in all of them.

We also held a send-off party for him on September 13th.

From June 29 to July 8, an operando PTRF-XAFS experiment and a joint research with AIST were conducted at Photon Factory (PF) of the Institute for Materials Structure Science (IMSS) of the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK).

We enjoyed it and also had a great time playing frisbee and soccer.

A JEOL UHV scanning tunneling microscope with liquid-nitrogen cooling tank has been transferred to our laboratory from the laboratory of Professor Hiroshi Onishi at Kobe University.

The number of UHV scanning tunneling microscopes in our laboratory is now three, and one of the three will be used as an operando STM/AFM under high pressure.

A 144-hour operando PTRF-XAFS experiment was conducted at Photon Factory (PF) of the Institute for Materials Structure Science (IMSS) of the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) from Feb. 14 (Wed) to Feb. 20 (Tue).

The results show the new potential of this method!
